Virus panic and gardening

If had intended to go to the first ISNA plant fair of the year in St. Annes park this year but I received a call that it had been cancelled due to restrictions imposed by Dublin city council to prevent gatherings.  Today I went for a cycle around Farmleigh and found the gates to the walled gardens closed.    Undoubtedly this is a setback for the traders since a lot of their revenue comes in the Spring between March and June.      The Alpine Garden society has also cancelled their main event, unsurprising since more of their members are retirees.     Stores that remain open have restricted access policies and even Lidl makes you queue 2 meters apart before you can gain entry to the store so no quick run in and get what you need everything has to be planned.

Daffodils

Even though the weather was dry and sunny there was not a lot to do in the garden this weekend.    I did plant some Tigridia pavonia bulbs in the herb border and Polianthes tuberosa internally.   Not had much success with this plant in recent years.   Gladiolus nanus ‘Galaxian’ are the remaining bulbs to plant.

Cat among Anenome blanda ‘White Splendour’

Elsewhere the seedlings are up, now lets see how the tomatoes do this year because I don’t have any other sources of these plants this year.   I set a mizuma seed mix outside hopefully there are no severe frosts and they will grow provided the cats don’t dig them up.

I did get some Rose fertilizer in Lidl today I applied that this afternoon and tied up the roses as intended last week.

In bloom this week

  • Daffodils (various)
  • Clematis armandii
  • Mahonia
  • Anenome blanda
  • Primula vulgaris
  • Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’
  • Tulips
